Carols by Candlelight is certainly a magical evening. The first sight as one approaches the school is a floodlit Mansion with a Christmas tree in every window. On entering the building one meets staff and friends in the decorated Great Hall with a 25 feet tall Christmas tree. When it is time to be seated one walks to the Chapel along a corridor with decorated arches and windows and lit with candles. The Chapel itself is decorated in the Victorian theme and once again lit with candles. One could hear a pin drop as the Choirs approach and enter the Chapel singing the Coventry Carol. For a full hour everyone was spellbound listening to Carols sung by the Junior Choir and the Kingswood Singers and readings from the staff.
Christmas is always very special in the school and this particular service sets the scene for all other festive Celebrations taking place - Nursery and Reception Nativity, an outdoor Nativity with real live animals, Breakfast with Santa and a Dickensian Christmas Celebration.
This year it was even more special as this was the Christmas
that GEMS did not want the school to have when it announced its
closure last January. This event, like many others which have taken
place under the Trust, showed what a strong community of staff,
pupils and parents exists in the school.
