Words of welcome from the Chair of Governors

'On behalf of Kingswood College Trust and the Friends of Kingswood I would like to welcome you all to the Celebration of the first anniversary of our school.

Seeing so many familiar smiling faces is another reason for celebration because we are only here as a result of the continued support of all of you, and the many who may not be here tonight.

A year ago concerned parents and friends of Kingswood came together, with determination and a shared vision, to save this school from closure and, with the support and commitment of the teachers and staff we became united in our determination to continue and expand upon this school's reputation as a centre of educational excellence.

Not only did we believe in the high standards of education provided and the skills and commitment of the Principal Mr Borowski and all the teaching and support staff to deliver an individual learning experience for our children, we also recognised that it was not just an academically desirable school for our children. We all felt it was more than that; it was also fun and enjoyable for our children, who we could see actually enjoyed coming to school and, in my educational experience, I do not remember feeling like that.

So when the announcement was made that the school was closing it was the children's reaction that was our greatest inspiration to take on this fight and now, to see how happy they now are, this tells us we were right.

We also recognised the value of the setting of Scarisbrick Hall that I believe symbolises the potential of the human mind to create beauty in the world, as demonstrated in the outstanding architecture of the Hall which is complimented by the natural beauty of the grounds that surround our school.

However if I was asked to define what makes Kingswood College different from other schools I would say we are a family here that share the same desire as any parent or professional teacher and that is to give children the best educational start in life they could have and most of all to have fun and happiness on the way, as the time spent in education is such a big part of the life experience.

So it is on behalf of the Trust that I tank you all for your support and for joining in this celebration.'
