The walls of Kingswood College, normally the home of calm and
order. were witness to acts of evil on the evening of Saturday 2nd
February, when a night of Medieval murder, mystery and mayhem was
hosted in the Great Hall. The imposing Gothic interior proved to be
an appropriate setting for such an evening of intrigue and, it must
be said, much silliness. Guests experienced a veritable 5- course
feast, while enjoying the entertainment provided by the Say Two
Acting Company, who danced, juggled and performed away the evening.
Unfortunately, events were marred by the untimely and gruesome
deaths of two of the company's members. It then befell upon the
diners to unravel the web of deceit that surrounded the incidents
and identify the perpetrators of the evil crimes that had taken
place. One has to admit that this was no mean feat, as several
goblets of wine and ale had blurred both the plot and the faces of
the actors who, given their extravagant medieval attire, had all
begun to look somewhat alike towards the end of the night. Guests
were also given the opportunity to "enhance" the
performance by joining the band of players in some imaginative
role- playing, which included lords, ladies, a friar, screaming old
hags,(a personal favourite) knights and fair maidens. It was a
shock to find that one of the characters, Stephen, was guilty of
such a heinous crime. Our party had eliminated him from the inquiry
quite early in the evening. Perhaps it was naive to base our
assumptions on the fact that he had an innocent face, rather than
his connections with character or plot!
However, all ended well, and thanks must be given to the actors,
the catering staff, the office ladies who waited on us hand and
foot and the Friends of Kingswood College Trust who worked so hard
to make the occasion a resounding success. Thankfully, all ten
actors looked happy and healthy when they took their final bows.
Wait....! Weren't there eleven of them at the beginning of the
night.....?
