Pupils are encouraged to consider food as an important resource in this ever changing world

Home Economics at Kingswood College Trust is taught from Year7 through to Year 11. There is a well equipped practical room. In Years 7 and 8 much reliance is placed on teaching safety, hygiene, skills and basic nutrition. About 70% of the lesson time is spent doing practical work.

During Year 9, pupils continue to gain further skills and investigate the use of particular ingredients and equipment. There is strong emphasis given to further food hygiene work.

Towards the end of the year pupils have the opportunity to participate in a College 'Masterchef' event.

In Years 10 and 11 GCSE Food and Nutrition is taught and the practical work is geared to the investigations required for coursework. During this time there is an opportunity for pupils to gain their Basic Food Hygiene Certificate.
