South Africa may be the Rainbow nation and the host of the World Cup but Scarisbrick Hall came vey close hosting their Royal Ascot Ladies' Day on Thursday 17th June with a theme of 'Up up and Away' and the Rainbow very much in evidence in the highly decorated marquee, where the lunch was held.
On arrival the ladies were transported into a different world by travelling along the main drive in a horse-drawn carriage, open-top limousine or the latest Porsche saloon cars, where they could not fail to see the hot-air balloon, children flying their rainbow kites and maypole dancing.

During a champagne reception the Scarisbrick Hall dance troupe entertained the guests on the lawns in brilliant sunshine.
Over 80 pupils from the school, with ages ranging from 4- 14 years, continued the entertainment during a four course lunch prepared by the school chef and served by boys from Years 8 and 9.
A Fashion Show, by courtesy of Tatters of Longton, also included girls from Years 7 and 8 acting as models. Several other girls exhibited some alternative fashion with a fun show of items they had designed and made in their Fashion and Fabrics lessons.
A take off of the TV show Mr & Mrs caught a few ladies by surprise with appearances of their husbands on the TV screens, strategically placed around the marquee, giving their answers to the three questions being asked. One couple managed to match all their three answers!
In between the entertainment the guests were able to lay their bets and watch the races on the TV screens.
The day finished with a performance from the Abba tribute Band - Abba Dream - followed by a Disco with dancing well into the night.
