The majority of the Infants, a high percentage of the Juniors
and a few Senior school pupils participated in the personal
challenge of a mini triathlon on Tuesday 17th June. The
triathlon consisted of the tree events: swimming, cycling and
running. The distances varied according to age:
Swimming Cycling Running
Key Stage 1 25m 2km 800m
Years 3 / 4 100m 4km 1600m
Years 5 / 6 200m 6km 2400m
Years 7 / 8 300m 10km 3200m
Years 9/10 400m 16km 4000m
The swimming took place at Park Pool in Ormskirk and the cycling
and running in our own grounds.
Many found the swim to be a leisurely start but it was very
competitive and several pupils broke their own personal best
records.
Once back at the school the bikes were all lined up ready for
the start. It was a delight to see so many children having fun
riding their bikes in a safe environment but it did become a real
speed trial by the time the Juniors and Seniors got going.

At the end of the cycling the competitors had to start running
straight away. This requires the use of different muscles and is
not an easy transition. The grimaces on the children's faces
proved that!
All the children ran races of their lives, once again many doing
their personal best. There were many very red faces by the time
they finished. The competitive spirit was there but in a friendly
way with everyone congratulating each other.
It was an occasion when staff saw another side to many children
and it certainly showed what they can do when highly motivated.
