Hundreds of pupils and staff got into their red suits for a Santa dash through the school grounds in aid of a former pupil Sam Formby.
Sam, who is now 21, suffered a brain haemorrhage when he was 16
sitting his GCSE examinations. He was left paralysed. He had two
major brain operations and spent 5 weeks in intensive care at
Walton Neurological Centre. Sam spent most of his time in an
electric wheel chair. Four years on from his brain haemorrhage, Sam
completed a 5 km race on a borrowed hand bike. Instead of keeping
the £400 he raised to buy his own hand bike to compete in
more marathons, he donated the money to Hettinga House Hospice in
Ormskirk.
The school has been raising funds for the Sam Formby Appeal to
go towards the required £4000 needed for Sam to have a
custom-made bike of his own. The aim was to raise £2000 but so
far £2600 has been raised from the Santa dash, Carol singing
at Tescos, a mufti day as well as donations and the target is now
£3000.
