School Meals

Healthy Eating

Our aim is to ensure that pupils have sufficient to eat throughout the day and at the same time help to educate them to maintain a healthy balanced life style.

Breakfast

It is important that the day starts with a substantial breakfast. To supplement the breakfast children eat at home the school's breakfast service is available in the Dining room from 07.30-08.30.

Snacks for Breaks

Pupils may bring their own drink of water or milk into school provided that they are in cartons or plastic containers i.e NO CANS or GLASS BOTTLES are allowed.

Pupils are allowed to bring their own snacks on the understanding that:

  • the snacks are healthy - fresh fruit, raw vegetables etc are certainly encouraged. Foods with high salt content are discouraged;
  • there are no sweets, chocolate or crisps;
  • recycling litter bins are used for all rubbish.

Toast, healthy snacks and drinks are on sale each break in the Dining room.

Lunch

Pupils of all ages may opt to bring a HEALTHY packed lunch. The school lunch service offers a healthy balanced three weekly cycle of menus with the choice of:

  • soup and roll, hot meal, hot or cold sweet;
  • soup and roll, salad or sandwich, fresh fruit or yoghurt.

All meals meet the tough new standards for the nutritional content of school lunches.

Daily main meals suitable for vegetarians are available and we are able to cater for most special diets.

For those pupils opting for packed lunches it should be noted that:

  • the meal must be 'healthy' and NOT include sweets, chocolate or crisps;
  • it must be contained in an air-tight food container clearly marked with the pupil's name. NO PLASTIC BAGS ARE ALLOWED.
  • a plate will be provided by the school;
  • drinks of water or milk must be in a carton or plastic container. NO CANS or GLASS BOTTLES are allowed
