The Advertiser - 17th January 2008
Kingswood College in Scarisbrick has achieved success in the
latest GCSE league tables-- despite facing closure a year ago.
The independently run school has an 83% score of pupils passing
five GCSEs at grades A* - C including English and maths, the second
best in the area.
The school on Southport Road has come a long way since receiving
the news that owners Global Education Management System (GEMS) were
in the process of selling the Scarisbrick Hall estate a year ago.
But determined parents, pupils and staff clubbed togeher to save
the Scarisbrick school from closure, forming a charitable trust.
Headteacher Eric Borowski told the Advertiser: '' It was a
fantastic achievement made within record time, things were done so
quickly.
despite tghis news last January, the students threw themselves into
their studies and these results prove that it was a school worth
saving.
To say that one is pleased with the GCSE results is an
understatement. We are extremely happy with the excellent results,
even more so because of the difficult year both the staff and
pupilshave had.''
