Science at Scarisbrick Hall
school is taught in a purpose built block which is shared with the
Mathematics and ICT departments. Biology, Chemistry and Physics are
studied as separate subjects from the start of Year 7. This enables
the pupils to develop their interests in a particular area as well
as being able to obtain an overview of Science.
Our approach is based on practical work so that the pupils develop skills for learning and for life. The new GCSE syllabus has heavy weighting on 'How Science Works' so it is essential that they develop these skills from an early stage.
We aim to foster an awareness of our delightful environment by taking every year group out into the grounds to study the ecology of the flora and fauna.
We also aim to keep abreast of topical issues by making the
pupils aware, through study of the media, the effects of Man on the
Environment. Through this study we hope that the pupils become
fully aware of the effects of their life style and engender a
positive caring attitude towards their environment.
