Kingswood pupils have been skiing in Kranjska Gora in Slovenia. To see what they did you can read our blog.
The group stayed at the Prisank Hotel with fantastic mountain
views from all rooms.

The whole journey from start to finish ran very smoothly. Manchester airport was extremely busy but they opened a group check in desk for us. No sooner were we through the security checks and it was time to board the plane. It set off on time and arrived at Salzburg smoothly where our representative Heather was waiting for us.
Heather informed us that they had just had 2 days of heavy snow and the skiing conditions were the best of the season.
The journey to Kranjska Gora was very picturesque. We stopped at a service station for refreshments and arrived at our hotel at 17.30
No sooner had we arrived at the Hotel and we went to collect our skis and boots.
The Hotel Prisank is a very comfortable 4* Hotel very close to the ski slopes.
Most of us are in rooms for 2 people but some are in rooms of 3 but everyone is happy with who they are sharing with.
We had to unpack our suitcases completely and settle in for the week.
The day started very early for most of us -- wake up call at 07.15 and breakfast at 07.45. The only person to be late was Miss Mapstone who forgot to put her clock on 1 hour!
Once we had collected our skis we went to meet our ski instructors. We were tested and put into 3 groups.
Lessons were from 09.00-11.00 and 13.00 -15.00. By the end of
the morning lesson the absolute beginners were snowploughing and
stopping. In the afternoon they were on a button lift and doing
turns.
We had hoped to ski after the lessons but they closed the lifts at 15.00 as the conditions were very sticky because it was very warm.
After skiing those who still had enough energy went swimming.
We are now looking forward to curling tonight.
The curling was great fu. Jared divided us into 3 teams and an Olymic coach taught us how to play. We played a number of games and the boys team won overall. The staff team cames last of course!
The hot chocolate here is very nice - just molten chocolate!
The weather was wet today but we skiied for 2 hours in the morning with our instructors and then for over 1 hour with the teachers. Jared, Charlotte and Georgia went skiing with the advanced group on the black runs. They did very well. In the afternoon we had 2 more hours with the instructors.
The stars of the day are Jared, Charlotte, Georgia for doing the black runs, Myles for doing the red and Jess for the best beginner.
We are now getting dried out ready to get wet again at sledging!
Sledging was real boss! We went from the Hotel in an old ski bus
up to a very high part of the mountain and then gathered our
sledges. We then had to steer ourselves on the sledges through the
forests - parts of the run felt like a black run as the sledges
were going so fast.

As we could not sledge up hill a snow cat took us up to a mountain hut for a drink of hot chocolate before we started to sledge back down the hill. By this time it was dark and spooky in the forest but it was great fun. Milly succeeded in losing her sledge over the edge but Jared came to her rescue. Once we were at the bottom of the run we had to pull our sledges up to where the bus was waiting for us to take us back to the Hotel for dinner.
We got wet wet wet! At times we were water skiing today and Aaron and Jared couldn't stop and ended up face down in a pool of water at the bottom of the slopes. After this morning's lessons we all went together up the four man chair to teach the beginners how to get off a lift. All the advanced group became the teachers and skied down a long red/ blue run with the beginners. The star teachers were Nathaniel and Oliver. The star pupil was Jamie as he is almost doing parallel turns after 3 days of skiing. All the beginners group are doing so well.
Tonight we are going snow boarding so watch this space for more exciting news.
Oh what fun! Another new experience for everyone.
After 1 hours tuition the
majority of the group could stand up and fall down quite easily. We
then had another hour to practise what we had learnt. Several
pupils excelled and Jared actually got up the button lift and came
all the way down the run without falling. We were congratulated for
what we achieved in such a short period of time in difficult
conditions.
At last the sun is shining. Whilst having breakfast we were informed about the situation at school and that there would be no school today. We hope everyone enjoyed the extra day off. One of the major lifts here was not working this morning as the attendants had gone on strike. We all skied on the local runs in very icy conditions but did extremely well. After the morning lesson we had group photographs taken with our instructors. By the afternoon the sun had melted the ice and the conditions were very pleasant. After skiing we are setting off for our night in an igloo!
After skiing today we set off in a coach to another mountain
resort. After going up in a gondola from ground level where there
was no snow at all we arrived at the top of the mountain and we had
never seen so much deep snow.
We all had to put snow shoes on and start walking even higher up the mountain! Jared and Jess B were the fittest and managed to get there first but guess who were next -- the staff!!! We won't tell you who was last. Once we arrived at the igloo we were given a drink and then a guided tour of all the bedrooms including the honeymoon suite. Several of us wanted to stay all night. We then had a meal before going outside for tubing and bumboarding -- the tubes certainly went at a terrific spead. At nine o'clock we had to put our snow shoes on and walk down a red run back to the gondola. Some of us found it harder walking down hill than it was walking up hill. At the bottom of the mountain the coach was waiting to take us back to the Hotel. We arrived back at 22.30 all tired but having had a fantastic day. We were told to get a bath or shower before going to bed but one room of boys managed somehow to have a dry shower as when the rooms were checked this morning the towels hadn't moved!
After the boys had their late morning shower we all went to our
ski lessons. Today was hot hot hot! Despite this the conditions in
the morning were very icy. We all skied well but not everyone
wanted to free ski with the staff today as they were so so tired.
Myles did his first black run of the week.
In the afternoon the Intermediate group joined the advanced group and Tahnee did her first black run. At the end of the lessons we all tried skiing on one ski. Dom managed it very well. After the lessons we all did a little bit of shopping but there is not much to spend your money on here in Kranjska Gora.
Ollie bought a pair of pink ears and paraded through the town wearing them!
Oh what fun!! Once we had yet
another shower and had dinner we put on our snow gear yet again and
put our feet into very short snow blades and collected a bike on
even more blades. Marco one of our ski instructors showed us how to
control the bikes on the slopes. After a very short lesson we had to
get the button lift up to the top of the floodlight run and come
down on our bikes. It was a very strange experience but oh such
fun. It was amazing the speed the bikes could go and how important
it was to know how to stop!
We have a very good photograph of Miss Mapstone on a stationary bike.
Chloe was awake very early this morning to find that Ellie and Jess had decorated their room especially for her birthday. It took her ages to open all her presents. Everyone sang Happy Birthday to her at breakfast. It is another hot day and everyone is ready and raring to go for their races in this morning's lessons. It is taking us ages to reply to all the messages from back home but we will try to catch up when we get back from skiing today. Chloe's Dad is treating us all to an extra skating activity as part of Chloe's birthday celebrations.
The lessons went very well and we all had great fun in the
slalom races. In the Beginners group Jamie won the Bronze Medal,
Jess K the Silver and Dom the Gold. The Intermediates and Advanced
competed together with the Bronze Medal going to Jess B, the Silver
to Ollie and the Gold to Aaron.

After the lessons in the
afternoon we all went to a ski presentation with our ski
instructors and we played all sorts of silly games before we were
given our certificates.
After the presentations we went into the Hotel for our own presentations and to wish Chloe a Happy Birthday and for her to cut her cake.
The staff presented the following awards:
Best Begginer: Jamie, Most improved skier: Jared, Best technique: Jess B , Determination and enthusiasm: Kathryn, Posh and Becks Award: Charlotte B and Luke
After dinner we all got back into our ski wear for a session on
the ice rinq. It is so different to skiing but it was so much fun.
Milly and Katherine were practising for Dancing on Ice. Several
people had difficulties standing up as the many photographs will
prove.

An even earlier call than normal this morning -- 06.30! Before we could bo to breakfast we had to complete our packing and clear the rooms -- oh what a bin full of sweet packets! A leasurely breakfast at 07.30 was followed by paying room bills and waiting for the coach to take us to Salzburg. Kranjska Gora was full of skiers and supporters ready for the World Cup Ski jumping which was due to start today. We were all sorry to say good-bye to Kranjska Gora but as the snow was disappearing so quicly they were due to close many slopes this weekend. The journey to the airport was peacefulapart from an emergency stop on the motorway for Myles who could not wait any longer!
At the airport we checked in only to find that our flight was going to be delayed. In the end it was a 3 hour delay with not much to do or see at Salzburg airport. We eventually took off at 17.00 and arrived at Manchester at 18.15. Luckily the coach was waiting for us and we arrived back at school at 20.00 all happy to see our parents waiting for us.
